Motley Crue

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

Motley Crue is by far the best glam metal/hair metal band.  Their early stuff is classic.  It gets crappier as the years go on, but “Looks that Kill” and anything from the Dr. Feelgood album is awesome.  And every power ballad of the ’80s/’90s is based on “Home Sweet Home”.

Note that this is not about heavy metal bands.  Different genre completely.  I don’t put Motley Crue in the same class as, say, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, or Led Zeppelin.  But I’m not sure I can lump them in with Poison and Warrant either.

Thoughts?  And don’t be a snob, you know you love it . . .

Back in the saddle

Trying to get back into things after a nice long weekend.  Not much happening today.  Holly’s been busy at work so I’m alone for dinner for the next few days.  Gettings some music together to play with Ben tomorrow night.

Anybody want a satellite radio?  I’m thinking of selling mine.  I never listen to it.

Fallingwater Trip

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

This weekend Holly and I went over to western Pennsylvania to see some architecture and just have a nice holiday out of town.  Friday night we had dinner with Grandma Gray, Aunt Elaine, Uncle Joe, cousin Amanda, and her boyfriend Brad.  Nice italian dinner.

We then drove down to Addison, PA, where we were staying.  There are mountains in western Pennsylvania, and it took longer to get down there than we expected, but we were there by 9 PM and settled in for the night.

The next morning we had breakfast at the inn, then headed over to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater.  It was pretty cool, and everything we expected it to be.  After the tour we ate lunch in the Fallingwater cafe.  Thanks again to Thom S for everything.

After lunch we headed for another Frank Lloyd Wright house, Kentuck Knob.  This house was impressive also, but not quite as grand as Fallingwater.

Saturday night we had dinner in a very nice restaurant called the Savage River Lodge.  Other than thinking we were going to be killed on the long dark drive to the restaurant, everything was great.  It was an adventure.

Home today.  Pictures are up at Flickr.
